Use Of Cell Phone in the classroom
Cell phones have become an integral part of
modern society, and increasingly common among children and adolescents. While
there is a valid case to be argued by parents and educators that cell phones
are disruptive to the learning environment and can lead to negative behaviors but
I found cell phones can enrich and become a useful educational tool in
supplementing teaching and learning instruction.
I have allowed my student on 12th
August to use cell phone in the lesson which I taught. It was a group work on
one of the English lesson. They were given questions and they were asked to
browse internet, download images to find the answer. I found that cell phones
can be a powerful participation tool in the classroom
I felt that there was great difference in learning and all the students were fully engaged. The class in the whole was busy and learning was found effective. Having mobile devices in the classroom allows students instant access information. Every answer to the question, they had at their fingertips, keeping them connected with what’s going on around them.
Mobile devices in school you can expand learning outside of the classroom. I also observed that there was collaboration in group as students use these devices as research tools during group work. The students were really excited and engaged in learning inside of the classroom. Lastly I felt that cell phones can help students to stay organized on the assigned task e.g.: group work, homework and projects as they can retrieve lots of information.
It's true that atmosphere of learning changes when teaching and learning take place with the support of ICT. Using cell phone as your ICT tools in teaching did a wonderful job to students.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely our cell phones can enrich the child learning if they handle positively. On the other hand teachers should be vigilant while children are handlhandling the phones because some may misuse it. You did good job sir.
ReplyDeleteGood initiatives for allowing the students to use cell phone. But if the school management find out that what would be the solution?, especially the disciplinary committee. As of our school, it is consider as serious offences.

ReplyDeleteIt was great of you that you allowed your children to use cell.pjone in the class and asked to find the answer from net....however i also see some danger here as firstly all the children may not have smart phone and which would lead to discrimination amongst them....secondly all the children may not have good knowledge on using smart phone. Incase if your class size is large some of your children might miss use the phone and internet. But if you have given proper instruction, orientation and guidance they might do best.
ReplyDeleteYes, with change in time, use of cell phone has become powerful tool in learning. As stated in the post, it has infinite benefit if use in a meaningful way. I feel cell phone will be very effect tools to teach lesson in the class where internet connection is abundant. This will curb the cost and definitely saves our time. We need not have to take children where projector is fixed. That is good idea. Keep going.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you have stated above is true but at times if we dont take care of the time and place of their usage of cell phones it could lead the children into wrong directions.

This was something different you did otherwise we just teach on ppt and other sources but would not let children browse.
They might have learnt a lot.

Its really nice to see your children enjoyed in using cell phone in their learning,great job but you should be mindful if children misuse it for other purpose.

That's really good idea to have made children to use mobile in the class.But if the teachers are not vigilant enough there is chances children may be hooked to unwanted programs.
